Google Is Restoring Missing Reviews In Organization Profiles

Google is bring back missing out on evaluations in Google Company Profiles after repairing a bug that caused them to get erased.

Google is fixing a bug that caused evaluations to go missing from Google Company Profiles. Google verifies reviews are getting brought back. Google’s Search Liaison, Danny Sullivan, announced on Buy Twitter Verified in reply to Mike Blumenthal, who states he reported the bug a week earlier.

Blumenthal isn’t exaggerating the seriousness of the bug. Evaluations are a dining establishment’s bread and butter, and eliminating them can substantially affect profits.

There are many threads in the Google Service Profile help forums started by business owners who lost most or all of their evaluations.

In each thread, business owners share something in common. After using Google’s suggested edits to their service profile, they all lost reviews.

Blumenthal writes in an article that he found Google was altering the client identification (CID) number when services applied recommended edits:

“With some digging, I discovered that in each case Google had actually altered the CID, the identifier Google utilizes to connect all relevant info to a company, including evaluations. Usually the CID just alters when 2 listings merge or Google has hard-suspended a listing for standards offenses and then restored it.”

Customer reviews are associated with a particular CID number, which suggests changing the CID eliminates the evaluations.

That need to never happen, specifically not when using Google’s suggested edits.

A fix is on the way, and hopefully, it’s as simple as reverting the affected Google Service Profiles to their initial CID numbers.

We’ll upgrade this post if Google shares additional info.
